The year 2010 has got me thinking of the future. More specifically, the future of our bodies. I was listening to a podcast the other day that was discussing at what point we stop being human and start being machine. This has been a question of sci-fi stories forever, but it occurred to me that it is becoming closer and closer to being a reality. Scientists are tinkering with prosthetics, genetics, and our brains all in an effort to make us better. But in making us better does it at some point make us no longer human or does it just make us the next step in human evolution? I don't think I am prepared to answer that question, but I did start to think about what improvements I'd like to see to the human body.
- a body stat function that is displayed in our sight (like the terminator) so we can see things like blood pressure, heart rate, hydration levels, calorie intake and output at a glance.
- ability to save all memories to a computer chip (and delete the ones you want to forget).
- a camera in my eyeball controlled by thought and blinking to instantly take pictures.
- a power down mode with a timer.
- cloned organs of my own on stand-by should I need them.
These may be a little ridiculous, but I wonder what changes to the human body I'll see in my lifetime? I don't believe it's far fetched to think there will be drastic ones. Just in my grandparent's lifetime they went from seeing people die of tuberculosis to being able to receive an artificial heart. Hopefully, it will be nothing but improvements and not a war with Cylons.

As long as technology does not take away our right to "no, I'd rather partake of thee" than we won't lose our individual human-ness.
Oops I meant to "I'd rather NOT partake of thee"
Oh, so I am SO human!
