A while back Nova's scienceNOW did a profile on Karl Iagnemma. I was immediately interested because like myself, his last name starts with "Ia" which sounds like "Ya" basically insuring that it will never be pronounced right on first try. It seems like a small thing to feel concerned about but believe me, after a while it becomes an issue. Beyond that it just got better. Karl is a research scientist at MIT who designs robots and writes fiction in his spare time. Essentially, he's doing what I wish I was doing had I been smart/motivated enough. And on top of that his writing is good. His short stories have already been optioned for a film. This blog is like my sad version of his real life except it is neither science nor fiction and is more like a diary of broken dreams. I was curious to find out how he finds the time to do it all and the unfortunate answer: proper planning and dedication. "if you want to do it, there's time and energy for everything." Oh, how I wish that were true. Or maybe I just don't want the science part bad enough.

I love that line. It such a perfect description for many of our blogs, I think...
